Organizing Practicum
Department(s)
Description
This course augments traditional classroom-based learning with experiential learning through a practicum that is supported by an internship, volunteer work, or another arrangement at a community organization, labor union, or other approved organization. Students will be placed in a unique position to learn about how these organizations are structured, how they build power, and how they develop campaigns. Students will also learn about the internal culture of the organization and how it interacts with members, community allies, stakeholders, and other relevant actors. The course will provide the space necessary to work through these and other questions: What does your organization do? What does it do well? What should it be doing better? Is it on a path to power in its industry or community?
